What a 3 year old can teach you about health and fitness…

A lot can be learned from a 3 year old and I find myself constantly fascinated at the lessons I’m re-learning from Gen.

…Do everything with enthusiasm.  You’ll enjoy it more – guaranteed.

…Be determined to try, not afraid to fail and pick yourself up quickly when you do.

…Say NO (thankyou) strongly and firmly when you don’t want to do something….. It’s ok to speak your mind.

…Take a moment to let your mind wander…..and just imagine what IS possible for you in the big world!

Once upon a time we all used to be little, and then along the way came life.

All of it’s ups, downs and in-betweens.  Heart aches, triumphs, loneliness, joy and delight…. Rules, regulations and grown up stuff like bills and mortgages.

We can get so caught up being busy in our life, we forget that we are the creator of it.

You can’t change things overnight, but you can change direction.

A change in habits…

A change in thinking…

A change in choices…

One small change in direction today will dramatically change the course of your life in 10 years time.

By now, I think I would have lost Gen’s attention, but I’m grateful I’ve still got yours.

Do something today that your future self will be proud of.

Personal Training T&J Op Night

I didn’t expect it from him.

You never know where that next “push” is going to come from and I didn’t expect it from him.

Every now and then, things happen, conversations are had, and seeds are planted – That.  Make. You. Think.

Make you question….

Make you really, really question something inside of you.

So, my heart and head have been working on this ever since he asked me a life altering question.  (This might sound a little dramatic, but it’s true.)

(Thanks mate….)

By the way, the “him” I am referring to is NOT Tony, BUT a gentleman I had the privledge of training a few months ago for a Charity Training Session where he donated dollars to HEARTKIDS for a training session with me.

We’ve known each other for years, and have a healthy respect for each other personally and professionally.

In between sets we exchanged small talk (which I clearly knew was his way of stalling..!) and he caught me off guard with this direct question:

Question: “Jodie, you really seem to be enjoying this, have you ever thought about coming back to training Clients again?”

Me: “Ummmmmmm….” (Very intelligent answer I know!)

He caught me off-guard as the answer ever since I stopped training Clients back in 2007 was a flat out – “No”…..BUT there was something inside of me that sparked….

Totally in the zone, pushing him to his next rep, that he thought he couldn’t do, connecting with him energetically to give him more mental strength and sharing that smile together, that only comes with hard work completed – something inside of me was screaming, “YOU LOVE THIS JODIE, Why don’t you do it again!?!”

You can’t ignore your gut….and especially a screaming one!

Well, I know I can’t.

And my gut followed me for days relentlessly repeating his question.

You see, he pushed buttons and he pushed boundaries on what I thought I should be doing and what was expected of me….

We all place ourselves in a box sometimes, and without that little “push” you will stay in your box – forever.

So the box I found myself in was – “I’m a Mum now!”

How will I fit it in, how will it work with the Kids and is it smart to commit to training clients again?”

I realised that this was my good ol’ sensible, logical Head talking….

If you’ve been reading any of my emails at all, you and I both know that I live life in a different place.

A place of possibility.

A place of “Why Not?!”, instead of “Why?!”

A place in my Heart, so fuelled with emotion that I often don’t think about the practical side of things as I believe the HOW will figure itself out.

And THAT is where I believe life is really lived – in your heart.

I left a very “well-respected Accounting Career” (My Dad’s words…), to pursue a not so-serious “Career” in Personal Training.  13 years later with a still running thriving personal training business…What was I thinking?! – (note sarcasm)

So back to that question he asked me.

Have you ever thought about coming back to training Clients again?”

I didn’t have an answer for him that day.

But, I do have an answer for him right now.

“YES, I do love training people and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since THAT session! So YES I WILL BE COMING BACK TO TRAIN CLIENTS!”

So, there it is.

Jodie, back on the training floor, busting it out amongst the boys and I CAN”T WAIT!!!!

So, here’s the deal.

My diary is NOW OPEN FOR BOOKINGS, from YOU – Yes YOU!

But, I’m only making my Diary available in July.  Why? Well, I think it’s smarter to take on new things a little slower than what I used to BC (Before Children!)!

It doesn’t matter if you have never trained with me or trained at Zenergy, all I want to do is help people that WANT to be trained by me.

I want to inspire YOU to achieve your best – I want to provide the right amount of “push” for you too – because we all need that sometimes.

If you’ve ever wanted 1 on 1 time with me, then this is your very limited chance to get it.

I’m not here to muck around.

I’m here to help YOU find within yourself the mental and physical strength that IS THERE waiting to be untapped.

If this resonates with you at all, then maybe this is THE PUSH  that you’ve been waiting for.

Remember, my diary is ONLY going to be open for July, so best not think about this one given it’s JULY NEXT WEEK!!!!

Bloody big question.

So, I’ve got some fitness and life goals that I want to set soon, but there’s an unkown factor (that would be Bub no. 2 coming shortly), and I’ve found myself stalling on the “decide” part lately.

My brain has been wandering into the territory of, “let’s just see what happens, then go from there….

I like this theory, but I also know it’s dangerous, as you can fall into complacency and then easily get caught up in “life” to the point of 6 months passing by and then realising…. “Where the hell did that time go?”

I don’t like complacency.

I like progress.

It dawned on me yesterday the old theory I used to use religiously has been buried for a while, and collecting some dust.

So I dusted it off and I’m ready to use it again.

That theory – Start with the END in mind. (Thanks Stephen Covey)

This weekend that’s what I’ll be focusing on….

What do I want my life, my health and my family to look like in 5 years time….?”

Bloody big question that is going to hurt my brain.

Better go crank up the engines…….Anyone want to join me?

Over and out….Jodes x

“It” is Your Decision

What determines whether someone is going to hit their goals or not?

Making the decision that you are going to achieve your goal is where it all starts and finishes!

You see many people want “it”.

We all want to be fit, have the fit body, the muscles, the elimination of any wobbly bits, the energy and vitality, the feeling of success and self-pride.

The question is… Have you really decided what “it” is for you? AND, Do you want “it” bad enough?

I think the key is to find that place where you are pushing at the right level for you.  The right level being that place where you are truly fulfilled and happy! You feel challenged but not so much that you feel like a weight is pushing you into the ground. You are not kidding yourself by setting goals that require much more time and effort than you are prepared to put in and you are also not kidding yourself by saying that it is all ok when it is not!

If you are overweight and unfit you know that your time for ill health will come much sooner than it should.

In 2006 I competed in my first body building competition. It was a decision I made 14 weeks before the first competition date. I had a reasonable base as I’d been strength training consistently for several years. So 12 weeks out I had my first appointment with my Personal Trainer, a friend and past Mr Australia. After placing second in the novice category that year I decided that I would devote my training for the next year to becoming the best body builder I could be (without the drugs).

My goal was to win my weight division in the QLD titles in 2007. This journey was an amazing experience and one that taught me many things that I continue to benefit from today.

However, these lessons only came from putting in the “work” to be the best I could be. The training and eating wasn’t a chore because it was simply part of what I needed to do to achieve what I wanted. I lived and breathed body building because the prize was worth it!

Did I win my division?

Yes, but that’s not why I felt successful that day.

Tony Hebrard - 2007 Qld Champion of Natural Body BuildingThe real success came as I stood there on stage knowing that I had given it everything I had and that is where the real satisfaction is. Winning to me does matter, but the real win is beating any inner demons that hold you back from being your best!

So, if you have a goal that you’d like to achieve but you haven’t really been going for it try this this home-work task out.

Sit down and write down the pros and cons for training, eating and working towards “it”. Then weigh it all up. If the pros for it outweigh the cons then what are you waiting for?

Make the decision and go for it and give it everything you’ve got!

So what if you miss out on a bit of sleep or some of the Master Chef All Stars!

So what if you need to take some time to prepare your healthy food.

So what if you have to push a little harder in your training sessions.

When you stand there on your own podium of success knowing that you have given it everything you’ve got you will feel something that truly satisfies your soul!

Remember, it’s more fun when you’re fit!
